'Counting down the best new music from Heritage artists'
United DJs FIRST EVER Heritage Chart was announced this week by legendary DJ and new host to the station, Dr Fox. Limahl's 'Still in Love' topped the countdown for week 1.
I caught up with the 'Too Shy' singer for a quick '3 question' chat about it...
H: Congratulations, Limahl! How do you feel about being the first ever Heritage number 1?
Limahl: Really chuffed to bits actually. United DJ’s Radio have been brilliant supporting the single and their listener’s feedback makes it all feel worthwhile after we worked hard on the single, including my flying to Berlin to record the vocals ;-)
H: Do you mind the term ‘Heritage’...?
Limahl: I don’t mind it a bit - Vintage/Heritage/classic are all pretty friendly/complimentary terms, what’s not to like? ;-)
H: Do you think every artist should be judged on the quality of their work, whatever their age? Seems crazy to me that big radio stations can’t play new music from ‘older’artists - unlike former athletes, like myself, that lose physique, singers don’t lose their ability to still sing well or to write great music...
Limahl: Exactly . . . you learn to swim or ride a bicycle and never forget. I think UK mainstream radio needs a bit of a shake up - especially when you look at the success of the retro live festivals like ‘Rewind’, 'Lets’ Rock’, ‘Back To The 80’s’ and countless others. There’s a massive audience there!!
